How NFT Panda's BAM Token Economy Worked
NFT Panda was an RPG on the WAX blockchain focused on ownership of Panda characters with varied features. Players collected Panda cards with the goal of acquiring the rarest ones, then released them into biomes for idle resource collection.
The game's internal economy revolved around BAM tokens, used for:
- Buying slots to hold more Panda characters (since Pandas had cooldown periods, more slots meant more quests)
- Crafting weapons based on a Panda's element (Wind, Earth, Water, Fire), with probability-based success rates
- Upgrading Panda stats to boost mission earnings
- Purchasing consumables to enhance rare Pandas
Each Panda had an element and various statistics important for resource acquisition. Better NFT heroes with more XP and higher level ranks increased earnings. Pandas needed to be kept for extended periods to maintain their rankings.
Players could start with a Common Panda for as low as $2, though Mythic NFTs were significantly more expensive. The mix of token burns, chance mechanics, and in-game purchases was designed to create a more sustainable economy than pure earn-and-sell models.
Original Article Context (December 2022)
This article was originally published during a WAX ecosystem year-end giveaway event. At the time, NFT Panda was positioned as one of the WAX games least affected by the 2022 bear market, since WAX-based games relied on the blockchain primarily for ownership rather than speculation. However, the broader decline in P2E gaming interest eventually reached the WAX ecosystem in 2023.
