Genshin Impact is a multi-platform game that first landed in 2020, and has since grown to be a mobile hit. The action RPG with exploration, quests and upgrades had its launch during the play-to-earn boom, and established its presence at that time. Genshin Model uses community engagement tactics, such as the currently running player content competition. 

Genshin Impact is not tokenized, but its model is holding hints that are applied to some of the latest developments in Web3 tokenized games. Genshin Impact is also similar to some of the most recent Web3 additions, including Dear, Ella, Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds and other fantasy-themed games. Genshin Impact is also the inspiration behind the newly built Realm Hunter game. 

Genshin Impact itself has not picked a blockchain, but has a solid in-game earnings and achievement arc. The game sets the pace with quality graphics and a full-color mobile world, so far outpacing most 3D exploration games with tokens. 

No NFT, but Varied Item Demands

Genshin Impact is partially pay-to-play, setting up demand for items. Players may decide to upgrade faster, or buy cosmetic items. The available purchases hinge on a very varied list of in-game items. With this, Genshin Impact resembles play-to-own games, though its items are not recorded on a blockchain. 

In the game, there are also proto-tokens, Primogens and Gold. The Primogens are needed to summon the game’s heroes, and Gold is the asset to buy upgrades. This is very close to a game with a two-token model, though counted as a fully traditional Web2 product.

Genshin Impact blows apps out of the water with more than 50M downloads, showing the potential of quality games to reach an audience even with a partially paid model. 

What makes the game appealing is its varied terrain and constant discovery. The process of finding tools, challenges, and following the quest are what keeps players glued to the screen.
