P2E Moon Watch: The Gaming Week in Review (April 29 – May 6, 2022)

The past week was a mix of negative price action and positive news in game development for both A-grade and grass-roots P2E projects.

The market for P2E games remains bearish, with more complaints that the previous earnings balances are impossible to achieve. However, games continue to build and some register significant player counts. The complexity of games or their financing sometimes does not have direct bearing on the number of players.

Leading Games by Number of Users

The primacy of games is difficult to estimate. The P2E space contains games with high social media presence. Not all players are reflected on-chain, hence some games appear less busy than in reality.

Sunflower Land once again takes the top spot on Polygon, Crabada is the leader on Avalanche and Mobox is among top BSC games. All games retained their positions over the course of a few days

P2E Token Price Action

Weekly Winner: Crabada (CRA) +5.53%. The upcoming battle game and active play made CRA the sole earner in a week of deep losses for all tokens.

Weekly Loser: Mines of Dalarnia (DAR) -25.5% to $1.09. The game saw its token unravel after a previous rally caused by the beta launch. Mines of Dalarnia was one of the long-awaited games in 2022, finally making use of its Mining Ape NFTs.

The market cap of all P2E tokens sank to $11.6B equivalent, down 60% from its peak.

Decentraland – 11.44% traded at $1.44, in line with the overall market drop.

The Sandbox (SAND) – 11.91% to $2.09. The Sandbox remains one of the most active games in terms of building and partnerships, and its token is not overproduced or dumped, making this week’s slide mostly based on open market factors.

Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) -18.37% to $28.11, abandoning previous tiers and making the game’s P2E balance even harder to sustain.

Gala Games (GALA) – 10.72% to $0.14. Gala Games remains a strong project with special NFT and GALA awards prepared for players in May.

WAX (WAXP) – 19.98% to $0.19. WAX remains the fastest blockchain and especially important for Alien Worlds.

The past two weeks saw a dramatic shift in crypto market sentiment. Most games struggle with their reward tokens, and some are on the verge of remaining profitable. But new and promising games like Otherside Meta by Yuga Labs show there is still enthusiasm for NFT gaming and still hot money flowing into the more prominent projects.
