P2E and Web3 Weekly Review (December 2 – December 9, 2022)

While P2E tokens remain on the lower range, games are highly active with launches, giveaways and events.

Games are taking a path to sustainability with several different models. Players are no longer investing large sums in NFT purchases, but games are introducing small fees, paid beta tests, tournament tickets or gas fees or micropayments to mint, craft or other in-game tasks. P2E games in their initial form are almost gone, while big-scale projects and existing games aim for ownership, NFT security and a fun-first approach. More and more 3D games with high quality are showing up, with more launches expected in early 2023.

Leading Games by Number of Users

There were more shifts in the top 10 of Web3 and P2E games. New projects are shifting to Polygon, after problems with Solana and exposure to assets linked to the failure of the FTX exchange. Some short-term climbers are appearing among the top 10, especially during special events, giveaways or mints. Top games also recovered their user count over the past few days, with week-on-week gains. Axie Infinity remains stagnant in the stage between seasons.

P2E Token Price Action

The market cap of all P2E tokens slid again to $3.98B as there is diminishing interest in P2E tokens. Still, AXS recovered by more than 15% and is now closer to $8.

Upcoming Airdrops and Giveaways

The best approach is to use official links and avoid too-good offers. It may be safer to create a new wallet if in doubt about a giveaway. Malicious links can drain the contents of a wallet.

Recently, Binance NFT also removed a long list of NFT projects, which imitated already established collections. Watch out for collections with altered names, close spelling, or ones which copy directly the style of former high-profile mints.
