The year ended with a shift to ownership and away from grinding for tokens, bot usage and idle games.

The last week of 2022 saw most games wrap up their achievements. Giveaways and special events aimed to boost engagement. Over the past few months, the crypto bear market pushed game projects to invent new reward types. Some of the games tried to stop relying on market action to build value. More and more projects went game-first, building up a quality product even before tokenzation or NFT sales. At the same time, new collections such as Honeyland kept selling out in minutes, especially when the asking price is more reasonable. More players are interested in owning, though not at the peak prices during the 2021 NFT craze.

Leading Games by Number of Users

Leading games with the most on-chain transactions ended the year of relative stability, mostly remaining unchallenged. The top 10 of blockchain activity is rather dynamic, with new games trending especially during token sale events or reward seasons. But games like Alien Worlds kept up the pace, reflecting user engagement through their ongoing mini-tournaments.

P2E Token Price Action

The market cap of all P2E tokens headed for year-end levels around $3.159B, extending the relentless slide. The market kept losing value from a peak above $30B equivalent, affecting even top tokens, but wiping out smaller and less significant assets.

NFT giveaways are best used with a new wallet using only assets for gas. Only use official links for giveaways, and even then it is preferable to use an empty new wallet to avoid losses or mistakes. Always use a wallet set up to the right blockchain.

The year ended with multiple in-game giveaways. Most games include NFT, but avoid the over-promotion and high asking prices. With diminished earnings, NFT upgrades remain important, especially in complex play-to-own games.
