P2E and Web3 Weekly Review (January 6 – January 13, 2023)

Axie Infinity recovers its user count in anticipation of Origins Season 2.

P2E and Web3 games kept seeing new launches in 2023. The paradox is that older projects that have been around for months are still behind schedule, while new games are cropping up with a completed product. The relative stability of crypto markets is also encouraging for the sector. Games approach tokenization with more caution, offering integrated wallets and easier tools to avoid losses or errors.

The top 10 of games saw some changes, with Nine Chronicles rising up the ranks, but away from the top 5. Leading games also remained relatively stagnant. Axie Infinity recovered its user count after the launch of Axie Infinity: Homeland. The second season of Origins may be coming soon, with the game rebalancing already completed.

P2E Token Price Action

The market cap of all P2E tokens rallied to $4.43B as BTC went above $18,000 and ETH regained positions above $1,400. However, most games are shifting their focus from tokenization, moving into NFT ownership, long-term holding and other types of earnings that are not dependent on the open market.

Upcoming Airdrops and Giveaways

Smaller collections keep arising, with some projects like Puzziland integrating them into games. Play-to-own games are also increasing their presence.

Rug pulls and thefts are slowing down, making NFT a bit more secure. Still, the best approach is to use new dedicated wallets for mints, if in doubt about the fairness of the project. Only use original verified links and avoid solicitations by direct messages.
